We often came across these two organizations when we listen to the news: “IMF (International Monetary Fund”, and “World Bank”. Are they the same, if not how are they different? Let me explain.
First, they are two different organizations. They were both created in 1944 at the Breton Wood conference, and share a common goal of raising living standards in their member countries. However, the two operate on different approaches.
IMF (International Monetary Fund)
IMF focuses on macroeconomics and financial stability and provides policy advice and capacity development support to countries. It provides short- and medium-term loans to help counties that are experiencing balance of payment problems and difficulty meeting intonational payment obligations. Its staff are primarily economists.
World Bank
World Bank focuses on long-term economic development and poverty reduction by providing technical and financial support to countries. Examples of such supports are building schools, providing water and electricity, fighting disease, and protecting the environment. World Bank assistance is generally long-term and their staff are often technical specialists in specific areas such as environment or education.
IMF(国际货币基金组织)
